Charlie Parr

Slide Guitar on:
Where Does the Ice Go?

In August 2000, Charlie and his wife Emily moved to Duluth, MN from Minneapolis where he was holding down Tuesday nights at the Viking bar on the beautiful West Bank. Currently, he plays every Friday at Sir Ben's in Duluth, and does about four other shows per month between Duluth and The Twin Cities. His music style is described as Old Folk, played on National steel-bodied, a Taylor, and an old banjo a friend gave him. He's been focusing on writing lately, and recently finished a new CD called "Criminals & Sinners" (Shaky Ray Records) which is mostly self-composed tunes. Continued Below...

Bill's Notes: Charlie (or, Jeff, as some call him, can't imagine why) has fast become a solid addition to Duluth's burgeoning (or is it "bludgeoning") acoustic music scene. He's been a guest on my "Songwriters in the Round" show several times and adds a great, gritty variety. Sometime, on a free Friday night, I'll just go listen to Charlie because, frankly, I don't hit parr often enough.
Bio Continued... Charlie was self-taught at the encouragement of music-loving parents. He was influenced heavily by Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake, Charlie Patton, Spider John Koerner, and Dave Van Ronk.
